During his time with the Reds Johnny was selected to the All-Star Game 14 times awarded the Gold Glove 10 times (including his rookie season) and helped the Reds win two World Series championships. Known for his strong throwing arm and expert defense Bench contributed heavily to the Reds success during his 17 years with the team. The Reds recognizing a future Hall of Famer retired his #5 jersey in 1996 three years before Bench was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
